Meet Karleen Fleming-Phillip, Owner of Early Steps Learning

My name is Karleen Fleming-Phillip, and I am the proud owner and founder of Early Steps Learning, a premier early learning program exclusively for infants and toddlers, located in Aberdeen, Maryland. Early Steps Learning operates under Kay’s Family Childcare, building upon a legacy of care and education for young learners.

I am a Maryland-licensed family childcare provider with over 12 years of experience in early childhood education. • 45-hour Zero to Three Critical Competencies for Infant and Toddler Educators Certificate
  • 45-hour Preschool Methods and Materials Certificate

  • 45-hour Childcare Director and Administrator Certificate
  • 9-hour Communications Certificate
  • Specialized training in virtual instruction for young learners
  • CPR, First Aid, SIDS, SUIDS, Medication Administration, ADA certifications

In addition to my work in early childhood education, I am a Licensed Training Provider for the American Red Cross and American Heart Association through my company, CPR PRO Training LLC. I teach CPR, First Aid, BLS, Bloodborne Pathogens, and First Aid for Severe Trauma. My background also includes service as an Army Child & Youth Family Childcare Provider, and I am a Certified Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Academically, I hold an Associate of Science degree in Healthcare Administration, which complements my dedication to ensuring the health, safety, and overall well-being of the children in my care.

On a personal note, I am a proud  mother of two sons, and retired military spouse. My journey as an entrepreneur and educator is rooted in my passion for nurturing young minds and supporting families during the foundational years of their child’s life.

At Early Steps Learning, we are committed to providing a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment where infants and toddlers can thrive. My mission is to help children build the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills they need to succeed as they take their first steps into a lifetime of learning.
